CBD for Specific Conditions

The Endocannabinoid System

*The Endocannabinoid System is the largest neurotransmitter system in the brain, and perhaps the most important physiologic system for establishing and maintaining human health. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that trigger cannabinoid receptors and both are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, or the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment. The body produces its own endogenous cannabinoids, those made from within, but also responds to cannabinoids from the external environment.

Researchers have identified two types of cannabinoid receptors: CB1, predominantly present in the nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs; and CB2, predominantly found in the immune system and its associated structures. Because CB1 and CB2 receptors are present throughout the body, the effects of CBD are systemic.

Extensive research, much of it sponsored by the U.S. government, indicates that CBD has potent anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, anti-spasmodic, anti-psychotic, anti-convulsive, serotonin increase, and neuroprotective and neurogenerative properties. CBD can be used for a wide range of conditions—chronic pain, cancer, Crohn’s, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, PTSD, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, antibiotic-resistant infections, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and seizures, schizophrenia, and more.
